I like gedit, or bluefish, but these all require gnome bloatware components.
Can anyone recommend a nice editor that i can apt-get install blah for running with icewm on sarge.

Re: Good Editor for sarge without gnome or kde
Sun, August 12, 2007 - 11:03 PMNedit is motif-based, or joe is console-based. Nedit is capable...I used it for several years on X11R5.
You should be able to apt-get install nedit, but let me know and I can get you a deb. -

No problem installing nedit.
Slight problem in file selection
Look like it will do what I want.
Thanks. -

Mon, August 13, 2007 - 1:02 PMYou may also want to check out the "august" editor. It appears to be optimized for html editing.

Easy install.
Reminds me of asWedit from old days, but as you say, only for HTML.
Will be useful as my domain ages need a work over.

Re: Good Editor for sarge without gnome or kde
Tue, August 21, 2007 - 11:55 PMvim is swell, but for wham-bam-thankyou editing I think joe is fairly capable. Letters being letters, such as they are.

Re: Good Editor for sarge without gnome or kde
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 4:43 PMright. I just like vim, adding my $.02. Some people like nano and pico too. vim for me is about time on task, it helps me spend as little time on editing as possible. (Keeps getting to be less and less time too the more commands I learn!) -

Re: Good Editor for sarge without gnome or kde
Wed, August 22, 2007 - 6:58 PMYou know, I've become so accustomed to recommending things for Linux newbies in the last few years that it has influenced what I initially recommend to everyone who asks a Linux question. Thank you for your $0.02!
